The Russian Defense Ministry announced that its troops have liberated the village of Sokil, 30 km northwest of Donetsk. Russia's breakthrough comes amid the Ukrainian army's difficulties in replenishing its forces and obtaining more weapons and ammunition. Russian president Vladimir Putin has reiterated his condition that Ukrainian troops withdraw from several regions, a condition rejected by the EU.
