Marshal Sir Richard Knighton warns that Russia poses an increasing threat to Great Britain: "Our sons and daughters must be ready to fight"

The Chief of the Defence Staff of the United Kingdom, Air Chief Marshal Sir Richard Knighton, stated that Russia poses a serious threat to national security, emphasizing the need to prepare society for a possible conflict. Although the risk of a direct attack remains low, Knighton highlighted that Russia is rapidly enhancing its military capabilities, and the United Kingdom must be prepared for real threats. He mentioned that, under certain circumstances, young Britons could be called to fight.

Knighton emphasized that the British army and NATO allies are the first line of defense, but a broad national effort involving the entire society is necessary. He compared the current situation to similar warnings in France, stating that the price of peace is rising. Although analysts estimate that the chances of a direct attack are below 5%, he warned that the threat from Moscow is increasing, considering the differences in military capability. Russia has over 1.1 million soldiers and a significant defense budget, while the British army has only 70,000 soldiers. Knighton underscored the development of destabilizing weapon systems by Russia and called for an honest discussion with society about the real risks to enhance national preparedness and resilience.
