Rhin Rhineland-Palatinate has decided to stop employing members of the far-right AfD party in the civil service. All candidates will have to declare that they have not been members of extremist organizations in the past five years. The authorities will rely on a list of extremist groups compiled by the internal intelligence service, which has classified the AfD as a far-right group. The move targets civil servants, including police and teachers, and has sparked a wider discussion about AfD's status in German politics.
