Reunion has been placed under code purple, the highest level of alert, due to the arrival of a strong cyclone.

The purple alert, the highest warning level, has been imposed as winds are expected to reach 200 km/h on the coast and more than 250 km/h in higher areas. The French authorities have called for caution and announced that the armed forces are ready to intervene in support of civil security forces.
