Rescuers have begun an extensive search operation at the Liushenyu coal mine in Shanxi province, China, to find the last two missing miners following a devastating explosion that killed at least 82 people.

The accident, the worst mining disaster since 2009, occurred on Friday evening when 247 miners were underground. Most managed to escape to the surface, but 128 people were evacuated to nearby hospitals. Authorities have launched an investigation, discovering that the company involved committed serious violations, including the accumulation of toxic gases. A responsible person has been detained, and the government has ordered a nationwide crackdown on illegal mining activities.
