Rafael Grossi, the director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), announced that repairs at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant in Ukraine could begin soon, following consultations with Russia and Ukraine. The plant, occupied by Russian forces since March 2022, experienced a total power outage for the tenth time on September 23, marking the longest such interruption since the start of the invasion. Although the plants are powered by emergency diesel generators, repairs are necessary for the power lines near the front. The IAEA confirmed that nuclear safety is maintained and radiation levels are normal. Despite the tensions, Grossi emphasized that both parties do not want a nuclear accident and continue dialogue to restore power supply.
