Reddit has filed a complaint against Perplexity, claiming that it has circumvented data protection measures to steal the information necessary for training its artificial intelligence-based response system. The case is part of a series of lawsuits filed by content owners against technology companies for the abusive use of materials protected by copyright. Companies like Oxylabs, AWMProxy, and SerpApi have been accused of extracting its data without permission, and Perplexity is said to have collaborated with one of them.

The management of the Reddit platform mentioned that, following a cease-and-desist letter sent to Perplexity, the volume of citations to its platform has significantly increased. Financial compensation and an injunction prohibiting the use of its data by Perplexity are also being sought.
