Vladimir Putin says that Russians voted for the army and the continuation of the war in Ukraine: “I want you to know, comrades, that this was a vote for you”

Vladimir Putin declared on Wednesday that the outcome of the parliamentary elections held in Russia over the weekend represents a vote for the Russian army and for continuing the objectives of the “special military operation” in Ukraine. The Kremlin leader made the statements during a meeting with members of the Russian government.

Putin addressed the soldiers and commanders on the front, telling them that Russians had voted for them and that the population has confidence in Russia’s victory. He also maintained that the election result demonstrates support for the authorities’ efforts to strengthen the country and stated that all the objectives of the war will be achieved.

The United Russia party, the president’s political formation, received 58% of the vote, according to data from the Central Election Commission. With 348 seats, the party retains its constitutional majority in the State Duma, with 24 more seats than in the previous legislature.

Putin also accused Russia’s adversaries of attempting to disrupt the elections and cited attacks on the air defenses of Moscow and other regions.

The Kremlin is expected to use the result to justify future policies and decisions regarding the war.
