Russian police used tear gas and arrested dozens of demonstrators in the city of Bashkir following a large demonstration.

3,000 demonstrators took part in the protest following the sentencing of indigenous rights activist Fail Alsynov to four years in a penal colony. The protesters claim the verdict was revenge for his involvement in previous protests. Alsynov claims his words were mistranslated.
