The 500-euro conclave bonus was reintroduced by Pope Leo XIV after being canceled by Pope Francis in 2013, ahead of the Pope's first official audience with Roman Curia officials and state employees as a form of thanks for the work done in the transition period from Pope Francis' death on April 21 to the election of the new pope on May 8.
