Archbishop Thibault Verny, 59, has been appointed by Pope Leo XIV to head the Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors, created in 2014 by former Pope Francis. The commission, made up of priests, victims and childcare professionals, is tasked with advising the Church on preventing sexual abuse and handling existing cases. Verny promises to improve safeguards and ensure equitable resources for all parts of the Church.
