Poland has decided to challenge the European Union's trade agreement with the South American bloc Mercosur at the EU Court of Justice (CJEU), according to an announcement made by Deputy Prime Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz.
The Polish government has approved a motion to file the complaint, aimed at protecting farmers in Poland. This action comes in response to concerns expressed by Warsaw regarding the impact of the agreement on European agriculture and food security. Poland has requested additional guarantees for its farmers, fearing that cheaper imports from South America could affect domestic production.
The free trade agreement, signed in January, has been negotiated for nearly 25 years and includes countries such as Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay. Supporters believe it will strengthen trade ties between the two regions, creating a significant free trade area globally.
