The PKK declared on Sunday the withdrawal of all its forces from Turkey, moving to northern Iraq, as part of the pressures on Ankara to continue the peace process that began last year. Turkey welcomed this decision, considering it a positive outcome of efforts to end a 40-year conflict. The PKK announced that approximately 200-300 fighters have left Turkey, and its leader, Abdullah Öcalan, called for a democratic approach to defend the rights of the Kurdish minority. The movement has requested legal and political measures for the integration of militants into political life, emphasizing that they do not only want an amnesty, but "specific laws for the peace process." A Turkish parliamentary commission has already begun working on a legal framework for this process, and meetings with Öcalan are essential for the future of the negotiations.
