Peter Magyar, the new Prime Minister of Hungary, stated that he is open to expanding the Visegrad Group (V4), which includes Poland, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic, to include Romania and other states.
In a joint press conference with Donald Tusk, the Polish Prime Minister, Magyar emphasized that an expanded format could regain influence in the European Union, considering the recent divisions among current members. He mentioned that Nordic countries, Austria, Croatia, Slovenia, or states from the Western Balkans could also be included.
Magyar proposed organizing a V4 summit in Budapest in June. Donald Tusk expressed enthusiasm for this collaboration and emphasized the unity between Hungary and Poland in promoting common interests, including in the field of energy security, where Poland will offer expertise to help Hungary reduce its dependence on Russian energy resources.
