Parisian workers have removed the Olympic rings from the Eiffel Tower, to be replaced with lighter ones by the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

After the rings were criticized, the mayor of Paris promised to build new Olympic rings and reinstall them on the Eiffel Tower as a tribute to the Olympic Games. The proposal has sparked controversy, criticized by descendants of tower designer Gustave Eiffel, conservation groups and many Parisians.
