On Sunday, over 100 political prisoners were released in Venezuela, according to the NGO Foro Penal, which confirmed 104 releases. Initially, the organization reported 80 releases, and director Alfredo Romero mentioned that the identities of those released are being verified. Lawyer Gonzalo Himiob added that the releases began at dawn and that their number could increase. The interim government of Delcy Rodriguez, which took power after the capture of President Nicolas Maduro by American special forces, promised the release of a significant number of opponents. Rodriguez stated that Venezuela must resolve its internal issues without external intervention. Although the authorities in Caracas claim to have released 626 detainees since December, Foro Penal has recorded only about half of that number. The political opposition and human rights groups criticize the slow pace of the process, and the families of detainees are waiting outside prisons for news about releases.
