OpenAI has introduced two new open artificial intelligence models, the gpt-oss-120b and gpt-oss-20b, after a five-year period in which it released only closed models. While their performance is below that of other OpenAI models, they outperform open alternatives on the market. These models can access more advanced enterprise resources for complex tasks via the cloud, but do not have published data sources. They also suffer from a high rate of hallucination, affecting the reliability of responses. Models are available for download on Hugging Face.
