The decision was announced by Foreign Minister Winston Peters at the UN General Assembly, who emphasized that, although his country is committed to supporting a two-state solution, it does not yet recognize the state of Palestine. Peters argued that recognizing Palestinian statehood could complicate efforts to achieve a ceasefire.
