New Zealand has announced that it does not recognize the statehood of Palestine, positioning itself against its main traditional allies.

The decision was announced by Foreign Minister Winston Peters at the UN General Assembly, who emphasized that, although his country is committed to supporting a two-state solution, it does not yet recognize the state of Palestine. Peters argued that recognizing Palestinian statehood could complicate efforts to achieve a ceasefire.
