Mark Rutte, the Secretary General of NATO, warned that Russia will have to face devastating consequences if it decides to use nuclear weapons against Ukraine. The statements were made during a press conference in Brussels, ahead of the NATO foreign ministers' meeting, which will take place in Helsingborg, Sweden.

Rutte emphasized that the Alliance is closely monitoring the ongoing military exercises conducted together with Belarus, reiterating that NATO's response to such actions would be extremely severe. He also mentioned that the United States will continue to support Europe regarding nuclear deterrence and defense. Regarding the withdrawal of approximately 5,000 American troops from Europe, Rutte assured that this will not affect NATO's defense capability, emphasizing that the troop reduction will be done in a structured manner.
