The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (or Atlantic Alliance) has begun planning activities for the "Arctic Sentinel" mission, aimed at strengthening security in the Arctic region, announced Colonel Martin O'Donnel, spokesperson for the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE). This initiative, similar to those conducted in the Baltic Sea and on the eastern front, aims to enhance NATO's posture in the Arctic and the Northern Great.

Additionally, the mission comes in the context of the increased interest of the United States in Greenland, about which President Donald Trump expressed intentions of annexation, although he abandoned the idea of taking it by force. Trump's threats have generated tensions within NATO, and at the World Economic Forum in Davos, he mentioned that he had developed a "framework" for discussions with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, without providing further details.
