Elections to Japan's upper house of parliament have brought a major surprise, with the nationalist Sanseito party winning 14 seats, luring voters with warnings about immigration and promises of tax cuts. Debuting on YouTube during the pandemic, the party promoted 'Japanese First', emphasizing the need to protect the lives of Japanese citizens. In contrast, the Liberal Democratic Party, led by Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, lost its majority, highlighting its political weakness.
