Over 100 migrants were detained while trying to reach Ceuta, two weeks after the mass crossing.

The Moroccan police detained 111 people, including 109 migrants from sub-Saharan Africa, in their attempt to cross into Ceuta, a Spanish territory in North Africa. This attempt occurred two weeks after over 72,000 migrants entered Ceuta, causing tensions within the European Union and anti-immigration rhetoric from far-right parties. Following the incident on July 30, which resulted in the deaths of 96 people, Morocco intensified security measures, using tear gas to disperse groups of migrants.

In Ceuta, Spanish soldiers were deployed to maintain order, and Madrid sent an additional 500 police officers, bringing the total to over 1,600. The Spanish interior minister stated that migrants who enter illegally will not be able to remain in the territory and will be returned to Morocco. Moroccan authorities are monitoring social media calls for a new mass crossing on August 15 and have warned that they will act against the organizers. Increased security measures have also been reported in other areas, such as Melilla, and some groups of migrants have managed to avoid checkpoints through mountain routes.
