The Saudi Arabian heir, Mohammed bin Salman, allegedly encouraged American President Donald Trump to continue the war against Iran, considering the conflict an opportunity to reshape the Middle East. Sources cited by The New York Times suggest that the heir conveyed that the Iranian government represents a long-term threat that can only be eliminated by removing the current leadership. This position differs from that of Israel, which would prefer a weakened Iran but not necessarily destroyed. Officials in the U.S. and Saudi Arabia fear that a prolonged conflict could lead to Iranian attacks on Saudi oil infrastructure. Although Trump stated that productive discussions had taken place with Iran, Tehran denied these claims. Saudi Arabia rejects the idea that heir Mohammed would support the prolongation of the conflict, emphasizing that he desires a peaceful resolution. Analysts warn that a premature U.S. withdrawal could leave the region vulnerable to a strengthened Iran.
