Mexican authorities have transferred 26 top drug cartel members to the US under a new deal with the Trump administration.

The transfer included leaders of the Los Cuinis, Sinaloa and Los Zetas cartels, including Abigael González Valencia, the brother-in-law of a cartel leader wanted by the US. The agreement stipulates that the US Justice Department will not seek the death penalty for the defendants. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has promoted security cooperation but rejected US military intervention. The Trump administration has classified CJNG and other groups as terrorist organizations.
