Meta has announced the introduction of parental controls to protect teenagers in their interactions with AI chatbots, in response to criticisms regarding their provocative behavior. Starting next year, parents will be able to block certain AI characters and monitor the topics discussed, without completely restricting access to artificial intelligence. The features will initially be launched on Instagram in the USA, the UK, Canada, and Australia. Meta will adapt AI experiences for teenagers according to the PG-13 rating system, limiting exposure to inappropriate content. The company is also using artificial intelligence to protect minors' accounts. Recently, investigations have shown that some safety measures do not work correctly, and Meta has promised that its AI characters will not discuss sensitive topics such as self-harm or suicide. This initiative comes after OpenAI implemented similar parental controls for ChatGPT.
