Thousands of protesters marched on Saturday evening in Tirana, Albania, against a plan to build a luxury resort by a company affiliated with the family of American President Donald Trump. This project, estimated at around four billion euros and associated with Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner, has sparked discontent among the population, which has called for the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama. The protesters, carrying Albanian flags and banners with messages such as "Albania is not for sale," accused the government of favoring investors at the expense of national interests.
Prime Minister Rama stated that the project has not been approved and that there are no reasons for concern, despite the protests. Additionally, protests were also held in the protected lagoon of Vjosa-Narta, where participants highlighted the ecological importance of the area. Activist Denisa Kasa emphasized the lack of transparency in the process and the negative impact on biodiversity.
The project aims to transform Sazan Island into a luxury tourist destination, which has generated even more controversy.
