The cyber-espionage campaign affected locally managed Microsoft SharePoint servers, used by many institutions to share documents. Attackers exploited a previously unknown vulnerability by installing backdoors for continuous access. Nearly 100 organizations, mostly in the US and Germany, have been identified as victims. Microsoft has issued security updates and the FBI is investigating the incident. Experts warn the situation could worsen, given the large number of vulnerable servers.
