Mark Carney, the Prime Minister of Canada, will be present at the annual keynote speech of the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, scheduled for September 16 in Strasbourg. This speech, which addresses the state of the Union, sets the priorities and objectives of the European Union for the coming year, being held annually in front of the European Parliament.

In the context of the trade war with the USA, Carney also aims to strengthen Canada's relations with European states, considering the upheavals in the international order caused by President Donald Trump. The European Union, on the other hand, seeks to diversify its international relations, including with Canada, in light of the uncertainties generated by American policy. Additionally, an EU-Canada summit is planned for October 29 and 30 in Ottawa, highlighting the importance of strengthening bilateral ties.
