Canada's Prime Minister, Mark Carney, stated that he opposes organizing a referendum for the independence of the province of Alberta, calling the initiative a "very dangerous bluff."

In an intervention in Ottawa, Carney compared this referendum to Brexit, emphasizing that the British are now seeking solutions to annul a vote they did not believe they cast.

The referendum was requested by the leader of the province of Alberta, Danielle Smith, who announced that she would organize the consultation in October, despite the invalidation of a petition with 300,000 signatures in favor of the referendum. Approximately 30% of Alberta's residents support independence, claiming excessive influence from Ottawa over energy resources.

Mark Carney, the leader of the Liberal Party, has begun the campaign for Canadian unity, proposing a "cooperative federalism" with all provinces. He warned about the lessons from previous referendums in Quebec, which were lost by supporters of separation.
