Marco Rubio, the American Secretary of State, stated that the United States is ready to contribute to ending the war in Ukraine, following discussions with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, held in Manila during an ASEAN meeting.

Rubio emphasized that President Donald Trump has clearly expressed the U.S. willingness to facilitate the end of this "senseless war." Although he had an open conversation with Lavrov, Rubio refrained from commenting on Russia's position. Lavrov reiterated Russia's commitment to a political and diplomatic solution, mentioning previous proposals between leaders Putin and Trump. Rubio highlighted the devastating impact of the conflict, stressing the need for both parties to be interested in finding an acceptable solution. He characterized the war as bloody and underscored the challenge of reaching a compromise.
