The American senator, Marco Rubio, stated that any nuclear agreement with Russia should also include China, considering its considerable and expanding arsenal.

This statement came a day before the expiration of the New START treaty between Moscow and Washington. Russia assured that it will act responsibly in this situation, according to the Russian president's diplomatic advisor, Yuri Ushakov. Additionally, the NGO coalition ICAN called on the US and Russia to adhere to the limits of the New START treaty while negotiating a new framework, warning that the absence of this could lead to an acceleration of the nuclear arms race.
