American Secretary of State Marco Rubio criticized the Cuban government: „It is controlled by a company owned by generals”

Marco Rubio, the American Secretary of State, has launched a new criticism of the Cuban government, stating that the island is controlled by a company owned by military generals who keep the wealth, while the population faces a severe economic crisis.

In an interview with Fox News, Rubio stated that Cubans "effectively pick up garbage from the streets," in contrast to the financial resources of 16 billion dollars available to the military company that controls the economy. Last week, the U.S. imposed sanctions against the Gaesa conglomerate and the Moa Nickel mining company, as part of efforts to restrict the Cuban regime's access to illicit assets. Rubio emphasized that the regime has brought the island to ruin and turned it into a platform for foreign operations.

He also mentioned that further sanctions will follow, in the context of a tougher policy of the Trump administration towards Cuba. These measures are part of a broader strategy to protect U.S. national security and combat corruption in Cuba.
