Luigi Mangione, the 27-year-old accused of murdering UnitedHealthcare CEO, Brian Thompson, appears in front of the New York court on Monday for essential hearings regarding the admissibility of evidence in his murder trial. Arrested in December 2024 and pleading not guilty, Mangione challenges the legality of the searches and interrogations conducted at the time of his capture, while prosecutors argue that the procedures were correct.
Among the evidence that the defense is trying to exclude are a 3D-printed gun, a silencer, electronic devices, and journals found in his backpack. Mangione, who has since been cleared of two terrorism charges, faces life imprisonment for second-degree murder and multiple counts of illegal possession of a weapon, while remaining in federal custody in Brooklyn.
