Manfred Weber, the leader of the European People's Party (EPP), stated that he was not aware of the communications between members of his parliamentary group and representatives of far-right parties, who collaborated on a controversial bill regarding migration.

According to an investigation by dpa, the EPP held meetings and used a WhatsApp group to develop a bill aimed at tightening the EU's migration policy, including the expulsion of asylum seekers to return centers outside the EU. This proposal was supported by the votes of the EPP and the far-right, contrary to Weber's previous claims about the existence of a 'protective wall' against extremism. In Germany, traditional parties agreed to maintain a distance from the AfD, the largest opposition party.
