Several airlines have started to raise ticket prices after a strong increase in fuel costs, influenced by the conflict in the Middle East.
The companies Qantas and Air New Zealand have already announced fare increases. Air New Zealand specified that the price of fuel has risen from about 85–90 dollars per barrel to 150–200 dollars, which has led to increases of up to 54 dollars for long international flights.
In Dubai, some flights have been affected by threats of attacks, and Qantas is considering the possibility of reallocating some flight capacity to Europe.
Also, the companies Cathay Pacific and Hong Kong Airlines have announced significant fare increases, citing capacity limitations and higher operating costs.
At the same time, Vietnam Airlines has requested the removal of the environmental tax applied to fuel, in order to maintain its operations.
The rising costs in aviation are starting to affect the tourism sector, and experts warn that losses could be significant if the conflict continues.
