French President Emmanuel Macron stated that France is preparing a 'defense mission' in the Strait of Hormuz, affected by the military conflict between the United States, Israel, and Iran.
The announcement was made during a press conference in Cyprus, where Macron emphasized the importance of restoring navigation safety for commercial vessels. The operation will involve collaboration with European and non-European partners and will begin once the acute phase of the conflict concludes.
France will send two additional frigates to the region, thus increasing the naval force to eight frigates, two amphibious assault ships, and the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle.
Macron also mentioned that the Iranian drone attack on the British base in Akrotiri poses a threat to all of Europe, highlighting the need for a common defense.
