Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko has signed an agreement to join Donald Trump's 'Council for Peace'.

Aleksandr Lukashenko signed on Tuesday an agreement to join the 'Council for Peace' initiated by Donald Trump, a significant step towards a closer relationship with Washington after years of international isolation. In a video posted on his Telegram channel, Lukashenko expressed hope that it would contribute to peace in Ukraine.

Although he has been shunned by the West due to human rights abuses and his support for Vladimir Putin in the war in Ukraine, Lukashenko is now benefiting from a relaxation of sanctions from Trump, who called him a 'highly respected' leader. The Council for Peace, initially proposed by Trump to address global conflicts, calls for a contribution of 1 billion dollars from member countries to maintain its long-term status.
