The Kremlin accuses the British prime minister of promoting “an atmosphere of total Russophobia” through the “anti-Russian” speech delivered at the UN

The Kremlin accused British Prime Minister Andy Burnham on Wednesday of fueling anti-Russian sentiment through the speech he delivered on Tuesday at the UN General Assembly, where he claimed that Russia spreads lies and disinformation. Moscow maintains that London’s position does not contribute to reducing tensions in Europe.

Burnham stated at the UN that the United Kingdom would establish a new National Centre for Information Defence. The British prime minister accused Russia of spreading lies and disinformation and called for measures against information threats.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that Burnham had said nothing new and that the United Kingdom was promoting an “atmosphere of total Russophobia.” According to him, Germany, France, and other European states are following the same course.

Peskov described the policy as “extremely short-sighted,” arguing that it distances Europe from measures capable, in the long term, of reducing tensions and leading to de-escalation. The statements highlight the persistent divergences between Moscow and the European states regarding information warfare and continental security.
