North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un reaffirmed total support for Russia during an event attended by a high-ranking Russian official, Vyacheslav Volodin, and Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov. North Korea also inaugurated a memorial museum dedicated to its soldiers killed in battles fought alongside Russia against Ukraine, in a gesture that underscores the strengthening of military and political relations between the two states.
North Korea and Russia confirmed in April 2025 that they had deployed troops together in the Kursk region. Although official figures have not been published, South Korean intelligence services estimate that approximately 15,000 North Korean soldiers were involved in the conflict, of which about 2,000 are believed to have been killed. Military experts emphasize that North Korean troops have suffered significant losses, mainly due to a lack of experience on the battlefield and exposure to modern attack techniques, such as drones and precision artillery.
