The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP) have announced an investigation against Yulia Tymoshenko, the leader of the opposition party Batkivshchyna, suspected of corruption. The investigation targets allegations that Tymoshenko offered bribes to deputies to obtain favorable or unfavorable votes on certain bills. Although her name was not officially mentioned in the NABU and SAP statement, sources in the press confirm her involvement.
Recently, searches took place at the Batkivshchyna party headquarters, and Tymoshenko and her members have not yet commented on the situation. It is also mentioned that the investigation could involve the leader of the presidential party 'Servant of the People', David Arakhamia. The investigated acts could lead to penalties ranging from fines to four years in prison. NABU and SAP have previously conducted undercover operations to dismantle organized criminal groups that included deputies, indicating a broader problem of corruption in the Verkhovna Rada.
