Italy intends to provide significant military support to Ukraine, including Aster 30 missiles, four SAMP/T NG air defense systems, and seven radars, in an Italian-French plan valued at nearly 3 billion euros. Although the Italian government has publicly announced humanitarian aid, such as electric generators, a comprehensive military package has been decided behind closed doors.
This will include four SAMP/T NG batteries, capable of intercepting ballistic missiles, and seven long-range radars. Italy will send missiles from its own stocks to support the systems already in Ukraine and will collaborate with France to enable local production of Aster 30 interceptors.
The project aims to establish a network of six SAMP/T batteries in Ukraine, reducing dependence on American Patriot systems. Funding will come from European funds, and deliveries are expected by 2027. The secret decree for this military aid also has a political stake, facilitating the rapid approval of arms transfers.
