On Monday, Israeli authorities conducted a raid in the UNRWA complex, the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, in East Jerusalem, where they took down the UN flag and raised the flag of Israel. Philippe Lazzarini, the head of UNRWA, stated that the Israeli police entered 'with force', confiscating furniture, IT equipment, and other goods, interrupting all communications. The police justified the action as part of a debt recovery procedure of approximately 11 million shekels (3.4 million dollars) for property tax. In contrast, the UN spokesperson, Stéphane Dujarric, dismissed the allegations of tax non-payment, emphasizing that the complex is inviolable under international law. The UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, condemned the unauthorized entry of Israeli authorities, reaffirming the UN's property status over the complex.
