The Israeli Minister of Defense, Israel Katz, announced that he has instructed the army to declare the border area between Israel and Egypt a closed military zone, as part of efforts to combat arms smuggling carried out by drones. Katz emphasized that this measure is essential to protect Israel's security and declared war on those involved in smuggling.

He mentioned that arms smuggling with drones is a direct threat, linked to the conflict in Gaza. The Israeli army recently reported thwarting attempts at smuggling, including the seizure of a drone carrying pistols. Additionally, Israel has taken control of the Palestinian side of the Rafah crossing, suspending access, including for UN personnel, for security reasons.
