The Israeli Minister of Finance, Bezalel Smotrich, announced the approval of a budget of 1.3 billion shekels (434 million dollars) for the establishment of 34 new settlements in occupied West Bank.
This decision has sparked international controversy, as the settlements are considered illegal under international law by the UN and most countries, according to Ziare.com.
Smotrich, the leader of the Religious Zionism party, emphasized that this action is a "day of celebration for Israel," stating that it will contribute to the security of the state and will combat the idea of a Palestinian state. An additional budget of 1.075 billion shekels has also been proposed for the construction of roads to the new settlements.
