The IRIS Dena frigate, one of the most modern warships of Iran, was sunk on Wednesday off the coast of Sri Lanka by a submarine, an incident that resulted in at least 100 missing sailors. Approximately 78 sailors were rescued, many of whom were injured. An emergency call was issued by the IRIS Dena, which was sinking near Galle Island, and the Sri Lankan Navy quickly intervened to save the crew.
There were 180 Iranian sailors on board, and the survivors were transported to the national hospital in Galle. Details about the submarine that attacked the ship have not been disclosed, but American forces have previously sunk several Iranian warships in the Middle East. The IRIS Dena frigate, commissioned in 2021, was recently involved in international exercises and gained notoriety through a world tour.
