This attack is considered a direct reaction to the American and Israeli military operation that led to the killing of the Iranian supreme leader, Ali Khamenei. In the statement issued, Iranian forces threaten that "the land and sea will become the graveyard of the terrorist aggressors."

The USS Abraham Lincoln, part of the American naval group, is equipped with F-35 aircraft and destroyers armed with Tomahawk missiles. The ship arrived in the Middle East at the end of January, aiming to promote regional security, according to CENTCOM.

So far, the United States has not commented on the accusations made by Iran.
