The blaze was caused by two fires, the Dragon Bravo Fire and the White Sage Fire, currently burning in the North Rim area of the Grand Canyon. The Dragon Bravo Fire, started by a lightning strike on July 4, spread quickly and was fueled by high winds. The White Sage Fire, also sparked by lightning on July 9, has also grown rapidly, reaching more than 16,000 hectares.
