Turkish authorities detained three opposition mayors, widening a crackdown targeting members of the Republican People's Party (CHP) across the country.

Mansur Yavas, the mayor of Ankara, denounced the actions as politically motivated, underlining the growing pressure on the opposition. In the past, Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu was jailed on corruption charges, sparking massive protests. Yavas said that in this climate, trust in the judiciary is being eroded.
