Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto has said that Hungary will not support Ukraine's accession to the European Union, despite threats from Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski. Szijjarto underlined Zelenski's hostile attitude towards Hungary and said that the Hungarian government felt obliged to respect the will of two million citizens who voted against membership. Relations between Kiev and Budapest are strained because of Hungary's refusal to support Ukraine in its conflict with Russia and concerns about the rights of ethnic Hungarians in Transcarpathian Transcarpathia.
