The Dutch Ministry of Health has announced that a woman is showing mild symptoms of hantavirus and has been isolated for testing. The outbreak originated on the cruise ship Hondius, which departed from southern Argentina in early April.
Three people have died in connection with this outbreak: a woman from Germany, a Dutch man, and his wife, who died in a hospital in South Africa after attempting to return to the Netherlands. Dutch authorities are in contact with the passengers and crew of the ship, who are being tested periodically. Three people have been evacuated from the Hondius, including two crew members and one passenger, and some have been transported to hospitals in Amsterdam and Düsseldorf. The evacuated German woman shows no symptoms but had contact with the deceased.
